How do I build my initial investor network?

Start with your current network

Ask friends, family, and colleagues if they know any investors. You may be surprised by the reach that you already have in your community!

Use LinkedIn, Twitter, and AngelList

Find investors who have previously invested in startups similar to yours. Send them a cold email, include them in your investor newsletter (with permission) and play the long game.

Attend relevant events and conferences

While meeting people online is great, nothing beats meeting people IRL. Find the gatherings where investors in your industry meet and make friends.

Think beyond “traditional” investors

Investors come from all backgrounds. This may look like some friends in tech who have big salaries. Or plumbers, electricians, and small business owners. You never know who an investor could be. So the best thing you can do is ask.

Consider becoming an angel investor yourself

In addition to learning more about how angel investors think, you’ll also meet other angel investors. More info here.
